Sunwing set to take over all 11 hotels on Cayo Largo

HAVANA, Aug. 30th  Sunwing will now offer direct flights to Varadero, Cuba, through the Sault Ste. Marie Airport during winter months.

The Toronto-based airline announced on Aug. 29 that it was introducing seasonal weekly service to the Caribbean country between Dec. 12, 2019, and April 9, 2020.

This marks the 12th season Sunwing has operated out of the Sault airport. In previous years, it has provided seasonal service to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

“We are delighted that our service out of Sault Ste. Marie has been so well-received,” Andrew Dawson, Sunwing’s president of tour operations in a news release.

“As a result of ongoing support from residents, we’re excited to be returning to Sault Ste. Marie Airport for the 12th consecutive season and providing convenient access to one of the most popular vacation destinations this winter.”

Based in Toronto, Sunwing offers popular all-inclusive vacation packages that include flights, accommodation, and meals to various sun destinations around the world.

The airline also offers seasonal service from airports in Sudbury, North Bay, and Thunder Bay.

The Sault airport is additionally served by Air Canada Express, Bearskin Airlines, and Porter Airlines.

In July, the airport celebrated a new milestone, breaking the record for passenger traffic and marking its best July in its history.
