HAVANA, Nov. 3th The presidents of Russia and Cuba announced plans for expanding “strategic ties” between the two countries and urged the US to lift the blockade of Cuba.
The Cuban leader Miguel Diaz-Canel ‘ met with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on 2 November. As stated in the press service of the President of Cuba, Diaz-Kanel ‘ has arrived in Russia for talks on the development of political, economic and military ties between the two countries.
Diaz-Kanel’, who became President of Cuba in April, praised the “brotherly” relations between Moscow and Havana.

During the cold war the USSR invested in the Cuban economy billions of dollars. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia has significantly reduced its investments in Cuba. The vast majority of member countries of the UN General Assembly on 2 November, voted to lift the us economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba. Voted against the US and Israel. In Washington emphasize that the embargo was set to end violations of the rights and freedoms of Cubans from the government.
