From today on, dance in urban landscapes takes over Old Havana

HAVANA, Apr 26. We start marking steps this week: yes, in the streets of Old Havana, together with the Danza Teatro Retazos company and its International Festivalof Dance in Urban Landscapes. Three days to enjoy street art and much more. That’s our starter; but, as always, there is much more.

International Dance Festival in Urban Landscapes

The International Festival of Dance in Urban Landscapes will celebrate its 28th edition starting this Friday, April 26. For three days, the program will include activities with dancers, parades and dance companies that will meet in the Plaza de Armas, in the Historic Center of the City, for its inaugural parade.

In addition, the Center for the Development of Visual Arts will launch the 18th edition of the International Video Dance Festival DVDanza Habana Movimiento y Ciudad.

Among the guests at this edition of what is known as “El Callejero” will be the JJ company (Havana), the School of Contemporary Dance of the Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center (Mexico), the Asiart-Dance group, Sociedad Española Monterroso and Antas de Ulla ( Havana).

In addition, the Capoeira Group Malta (Brazil), as well as Rosalie Wanka (Austria) will participate in the event, which also has theoretical events, choreographic composition workshops, yoga and body harmony, flamenco and tango.

On Sunday, April 28, the headquarters of its hosts, Danza Teatro Retazos, will host the closing of the event that will feature performances by several dance groups from Cuba and other countries.

Cuban Contemporary Dance Season

As part of the celebrations of International Dance Day, the Cuban company Danza Contemporánea de Cuba will offer a season in the Avellaneda room of the National Theater of Cuba this weekend.

From today, Friday, April 26, to Sunday, April 28, the company directed by maestro Miguel Iglesias will present a program consisting of The Tribulation of Anaximander (Man, Arché, Ápeiron), choreographed by George Céspedes, and Hands-On, a creation by the Greek John Mantsis.

When: Friday 26, Saturday 27 (7:00 p.m.) and Sunday, April 28 (5:00 p.m.)

Where: Avellaneda Room of the National Theater of Cuba. Avenida Paseo and 39, Plaza de la Revolución.
