Cuban musician and teacher Roberto Chorens Dotre died

HAVANA, Jul 28th  The prominent Cuban musician and teacher Roberto Chorens Dotre died today in this capital due to a cardiac arrest, at age 72.The Cuban Institute of Music, together with the Ministry of Culture, expressed its condolences to family and friends.

Chorens Dotre held the position of director in different institutions, such as the dance school of the National School of Art, the National Center for the Advancement of Artistic Teaching and the National School of Music.

He was national music advisor to the Artistic Teaching Directorate of the Ministry of Culture, dean of the Faculty of Music of the Higher Institute of Art and director of the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory.

At the same time, he worked as a teacher, lecturer and concert organist, specializing in early music repertoires, an activity that allowed him to perform on numerous national and international stages.

As part of his professional training he graduated with a degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the University of Havana, a degree in Musicology from the Higher Institute of Art and obtained a master’s degree in art.

His educational work also included the writing of scripts and the management of radio and television spaces, among which the program “Bravo!” Of Cuban Television, dedicated to the promotion of concert music, stands out.

He was the founder of the Movement of Children’s and Youth Symphony Orchestras in Cuba and director of the National Center for Concert Music and the National Philharmonic; he summoned the first lecterns of the National Symphony Orchestra to integrate and raise the quality of the teaching faculty of the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory.

In recognition of his extensive and fruitful work, he deserved the distinctions for Cuban Education and National Culture, the Alejo Carpentier Medal, the Diploma of Pedagogical Merit and the National Prize for Artistic Teaching. (ACN)
