Young Artists from Lat Am and Caribbean Attend Event in Havana

HAVANA, Sep 19th (PL) Artists and intellectuals from 16 countries in the region exchange ideas from today until next September 22 in Cuba, at the 4th Meeting of Young Thought and Creation in the Americas.

The event takes the name of Casa Tomada, the title of a famous tale by the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar, and since its first edition takes place in House of the Americas, as its main venue.

In a recent press conference, Vice-Minister of Culture Fernando Rojas praised the willingness of delegates and organizers of the 4th Meeting to maintain its realization in Cuba after the scourge of Hurricane Irma that caused severe damage in much of the country.

One of the centers flooded in this capital, because of its proximity to the sea, was precisely the House of the Americas.

According to Rojas, the delegates of Casa Tomada expressed their solidarity and some expressed their willingness to help with donations.

The participants this year will come from Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Chile, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, France, Nicaragua, United States, Peru, and Canada, as well as Cuba, among other countries.

One of the general coordinators of the event, Ana Niria Albo, insisted on a meeting with the press in order to identify voices, proposals, zones of conflict and creation based on thematic axes such as youth, participation, and communication.

Also, the strategies of existence and positioning of contemporary cultural production, conflicts and mobilizations for the right to the territory, the rights of nature and its protection, and the role of young people in the construction and safeguarding of historical memory of the hemisphere will be addressed.

Among the artistic proposals of the event concerts, films, performances, exhibitions and six plays by different Latin American groups stand out.

Workshops, seminars, and master classes, by specialists from Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Cuba, complete the options of the event, open to all interested public.
