Trump takes new measure on remittances to Cuba

HAVANA, Oct 24 (PL) The implementation of new measures on remittances to Cuba is a sign of the US insistence on harming the people, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced.

On his Twitter account, the foreign minister referred to the provision announced on Friday by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of Treasury, which eliminates the general license authorizing sending money through institutional channels.

This reaffirms that ‘there are no limits for a criminal government to impose policies that limit contacts, communication and mutual aid between families in both countries,’ the head of Cuban diplomacy wrote on Twitter.

Addressing the Fourth Workshop of the Puebla Group on the US economic blockade against Cuba, Rodriguez also condemned that measure, saying its adoption responds to electoral purposes.

For her part, Johana Tablada, deputy director-general of the US Department at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on her Twitter account that this discriminatory measure turns Cuban migrants into the only ones in the world who cannot help their families.

This regulation results in an escalation in the provisions implemented by the Donald Trump administration to hinder sending money to Cuba.
