HAVANA, Dec. 7 The III Havana Skate Marathon 2023 will take place this weekend on Havana’s Malecón, with the presence of around 350 skaters, including a hundred foreigners.«Due to the prestige gained in such a short time, Havana has been selected as the venue for the world skate championship and for the first time we will also hold a team time trial here, both master categories, Tony García Acuña, member of World Skate, told JIT ( international federation).
“In the master category time trial, skaters over 30 years of age may participate, mixed, no matter the categories in which they are classified,” he added.
These include the following age segments: 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and over 60, added the technical head of the contest.
«The team, of a minimum of four runners and a maximum of six, must have a female presence and may include one or more foreign participants. They can all belong to a single category or to several », he explained.
«The team result is determined by the passage of the third runner across the finish line, as long as a woman has entered among them. If she enters in fourth, fifth, or sixth place, the time will be taken for her when she crosses the finish line. If the woman enters first, for example, the time of the third in the cast will be validated,” he indicated.
“Having mixed teams serves to enhance the presence of women,” Tony said, although these and more details will be announced this Friday at the press conference scheduled for 10 in the morning at the Paseo del Prado hotel in the capital.
The competition circuit will be the same as previous editions: seven kilometers along the Malecón with start and finish in La Piragua and turn at the corner of Prado and Neptuno
«The epicenter of our contest will be the Piragua. There, in addition to the start and finish line, we will hold the awards and the inauguration, among other activities,” said the former skater.
In addition to those mentioned, the competition will be fought on Friday in the modalities of skatecross, speed slalom and jump; On Saturday there will be a team time trial, speed master marathon, skateboarding, 100-meter spring and spin marathon.
One of the highlights of the competition is planned for Sunday, the 42-kilometer marathon, plus the 504-meter sprint and the closing party.
«World Skate is considering creating an international marathon circuit and Havana is among the candidates to host one of those stops. It is being studied to start in April and conclude in December. We seek to be Olympic, so this and other avenues could lead us to it,” García concluded after thanking the support of Inder and the government of Havana.
The first edition of the fair took place in 2019. The second in 2022, when around 200 skaters participated.
