havana-live-olga tanonHAVANA, Dec 10th  (ACN)  My career is divided into before and after Cuba, said today in Havana Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón, who will give a concert on Saturday at the Anti-Imperialist Tribunal in the capital, under the name of “Promesa cumplida” (Promise fulfilled).

Also known as Mujer de Fuego (Fire Woman), Tañón confessed that knowing Cuba and its people definitely marked her and that this is the reason why she came back six years after her first visit, to return all the love that the Cuban people gave her.

With a live broadcast on the Cubavisión channel on Saturday at three in the afternoon, Cuba will dance to the rhythms of this Puerto Rican artist, who a few days ago arrived in Santiago de Cuba to sing to her fans and regale them with a memorable presentation, together with musicians and dancers of that territory.

Accompanied by maestro Joaquin Betancourt, the Qva libre group and singer-songwriter Descemer Bueno, the interpreter thanked all the cultural institutions and artists who support this initiative, and said that in the presence of the talent of young Cuban artists, of whom she has become a fan and a supporter, she feels like a novice.

With regard to the repercussion her visit to Cuba could have in the international context, Olga pointed out: I am not here to talk about politics, I bring a flag of peace and humanity and my voice is for the people of this country, where I feel at home.

Likewise, she highlighted: I would love to tell various artists about this wonderful experience, and tell them the emotional payment will be immense after they visit Cuba.

Also, she announced she’s currently selecting pieces for next album, in which she has already included songs by Qva Libre and by renowned composer Osmani Espinosa.

HAVANA, August 18 Back in 2009, Puerto Rican tropical star Olga Tañón performed in Cuba as part ofJuanes’ “Paz Sin Fronteras” show in Havana.

Now, Tañón is readying for a big return, planning two free shows on the island: One December 5 in Santiago de Cuba, and a second one December 12 in Havana’s  Malecón. Tañón will perform as part of a cultural exchange and is planning on inviting other acts to perform, too.

In the meantime, she’s warming up with a Cuban homage.

Her new single“Vivo la Vida” (I Live Life), is Cuba-inspired, and its video was filmed entirely on location in Havana. Shot documentary-style with handheld cameras, it incorporates Cuban musicians and locals into its shots as Tañón dances her way down Havana’s streets to a merengue beat. “The idea,” she says, “was to highlight the joy and musicality of Cuba, creating a bridge between today’s open country and the island she visited in 2009.”

havana-live-olga_tanonHAVANA, August 4  Six years ago the singer Olga Tanon made a decision that earned her admirers and detractors.

The artist, who lives in Florida, boarded a plane to Havana, Cuba, to be part of the concert Paz sin Fronteras (Peace without Borders), organized by Colombian singer Juanes.
The massive event, which was attended by 1.2 million people was held at the Revolution Square where 15 artists of different nationalities, joined their voices to bring a message of peace.

Since that visit, Olga dreamed of returning to the neighboring island. The restoration of diplomatic relations between the US and Cuba gave her the chance, this time calmly and quietly, to meet with people she bet six years ago.

“When I finished the concert Paz sin Fronteras I promised to return to Cuba and I plan to return to do a big concert. We do not know when, but we will do. I want to do a massive concert, but again free for the people. I feel that Cuba now needs to receive not to give and I want to thank the people for all the love.”
