havana-live-cuba-international-book-fairHAVANA, Feb 4 (PL) The director of the Provincial Center of Books and Literature (CPL in Spanish) of Matanzas, Daniel Cruz, said that the city arranges the final details to receive the International Book Fair.

Daniel Cruz said to Prensa Latina that the 25th edition of the International Book Fair will be held at the the historic center of Matanzas, whith a broad cultural movement since the 19th century.

This edition of the Book Fair will start in Havana on Thursday, February 11, and then will spread throughout the island. In Matanzas will be held from March 9 to 13. Uruguay is the guest country and the 25th edition is dedicated to the Cuban writers Lina de Feria and Rogelio Martinez Fure.

Daniel Cruz said that the first issue of 2016 of the Matanzas magazine will have as main topic the Uruguayan literature, and highlighted that in this issue is published for the first time the short story ‘Los peldaños del hombre’ by Daniel Chavarria.

Among the special guests are included the Brazilian Alex Castro, a specialist in slavery topics; and poets Christian Gomez (Chile) and Eduardo Chirino (Peru).

Daniel Cruz said that the important park La Libertad will host circus and street theater performances.

Other venues for promoting books and hold discussions, are the Museum Palacio de Junco, as well as the headquarters of the territorial branch of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and the publishing houses Matanzas and Vigia, Daniel Cruz said.

‘As usual, we will have the children’s pavilion, and will be remembered the 100th anniversary of the birth of Cuban writer Jose Soler Puig. The program includes meetings with authors, exhibitions, literary and poetic activities’, he added.
