Aerolínea Rossiya reanuda vuelos entre Moscú y La Habana

HAVANA, Dec 24. The capitals of Russia and Cuba will be connected again today by air, after the departure from the Sheremetyevo International Airport of flight SU6849 of the Rossiya Airline bound for Havana.

After the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, and as a consequence of the sanctions imposed on the Eurasian giant by the collective West, both countries were disconnected through regular and charter flights.

It was not until July 1 that operations were again restored through the Nordwind airline, but to date only to the tourist centers of the Caribbean nation of Varadero and Cayo Coco.

Recently, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Chernishenko explained that thanks to the recovery of these flights, the tourist flow from Russia to Cuba increased 3.5 times between January and October of this year.

«In the last year, we have achieved important successes with our Cuban friends. Firstly, there was a significant increase in the number of direct flights, allowing more than 146,300 Russian tourists to visit Cuba in that period,” said the government leader.

Chernishenko’s statements took place at the Russia International Exhibition Forum, where he moderated a seminar dedicated to the presentation of opportunities for national companies to do business in the Antillean country.

In this regard, he argued that with the departure of the first flight to Havana this December 24, about 13 direct weekly frequencies to different Cuban destinations would be achieved.

At 08:40 local time this Sunday, the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft took off, which is estimated to arrive at the José Martí International Airport in the capital of the largest of the Antilles around 3:00 p.m. They will also repeat on Wednesdays.
