Rex Tillerson to meet with Cuba’s foreign minister in wake of mysterious acoustic attacks

Rex Tillerson to meet with Cuba's foreign minister in wake of mysterious acoustic attacksHAVANA, Sept. 26th Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will meet with Cuba’s foreign minister after several U.S. officials serving in Cuba suffered from mysterious symptoms related to an acoustic attack.

U.S. officials told the Associated Press of Tillerson’s meeting with Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuba’s minister of foreign affairs, as the Trump administration continues its probe into the mysterious attacks.

At least 21 Americans working at the U.S. embassy in Havana were victims of the acoustic attacks, and some have suffered symptoms including hearing loss and brain damage since the end of 2016.

The State Department raised the issue of the attacks with the Cuban government in February, but the Castro regime denied any wrongdoing.

The Trump administration has since expelled two Cuban diplomats, which the State Department disclosed to the public in August.

In the wake of the attacks, a group of five senators is asking Tillerson to expel every Cuban diplomat in the U.S. and close the U.S. embassy in Havana.

“Cuba’s neglect of its duty to protect our diplomats and their families cannot go unchallenged,” the five Republican senators wrote in a letter to Tillerson earlier this month.
