HAVANA, Dec 30 Five thousand 253 irregular migrants have been returned to Cuba in 2023, by air and sea from different countries in the Americas, according to official sources today. That figure was reached when a new operation (132 in the year) to return 40 irregular migrants from the United States was completed this Thursday, states an information note from the Cuban Ministry of the Interior (Minint).
According to the Minint website, 31 people arrived through the capital’s José Martí international airport, and nine by sea, in charge of the United States Coast Guard.
Those returned by the Coast Guard Service (eight men and one woman) participated in an illegal exit through the western province of Matanzas, the text states.
The text added that of the people returned by air (two women and 29 men), three had left the country illegally by sea and the rest legally, but later took irregular routes to the US border.
The note points out that one of the returnees was transferred to the investigation body for being the alleged perpetrator of a serious criminal act that was being investigated before becoming involved in the illegal departure.
