Misleidys Vargas and Henry Jaen: Winners of the Marabana 2016

cuba-marat_nHAVANA, Nov 21 (PL) On a sunny day, but with a very pleasant temperature for running, the Cuban runners Misleidys Vargas and Henry Jaen won today the title in the 30th edition of the marathon of Havana, Marabana.

Vargas won the race (female category) with a time of three hours, six minutes and nine seconds, followed by the Dutch runner Inez-Anne Haagen (3: 11.22), and the Cuban Lizandra Gomez (3: 18.22), in the third place.

Jaen, meanwhile, rose as winner of the Marabana with a time of 2: 34.29, followed by his compatriots Yumier Fouman (2: 36.30) and Alien Reyes (2: 39.24).

Jaen, a runner from Santiago de Cuba, has won in previous editions of the Marabana, in 2006, 2007 and 2013.

For this year, Marabana had expected a record number of participants of 1,800 foreigners. This number increased since many runners who arrived to Havana even this Sunday were unable to register in advance on the international competition.

With more than 800 runners, the United States was the most represented foreign country in the 30th edition of the competition, which covered a circuit of 42 kilometers. A total of 113 countries took part in the sports event, including Germany, with around 150 runners, France, Spain and Mexico, expected with more than 90 each, and Great Britain with about 50.
