Microbiologists from 22 Countries to Attend Congress in Havana

Microbiologists from 22 Countries to Attend Congress in HavanaHAVANA, Nov 22th (PL) Microbiologists, parasitologists, doctors and other specialists involved in the control of infectious diseases will participate in a congress dedicated to the 80 years of the main institution created for the study of these diseases, said organizers today.

The congress 80th Anniversary of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Pedro Kouri (IPK), named after its main promoter who founded it in 1937, will start on December 4th with the participation of 150 delegates from Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Along with this congress, organized by the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, PAHO/WHO and the Cuban Society of Microbiology and Parasitology, among other institutions, the 9th Congress of the two disciplines and the 6th National Congress of Tropical Medicine will be held.

During the event, running until December 9th, a Seminar on HIV/AIDS infection in Cuba will be held, as well as the International Symposium on Chromoblastomycosis.

President of the congress Guadalupe Guzman said in a press conference that the event is seeking to update and share the experiences on the role of microbiology and parasitology in the fight against serious diseases, including infectious, emerging, re-emerging and neglected illnesses.

The congress, which will be hosted by Havana’s Conference Center, will be attended by scientists from Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, El Salvador, Peru, the United States, Italy, Spain, Belgium, France and Japan.
