Marabana 2023 is already running through the streets of Havana

HAVANA, Nov. 19. The main marathon race in Cuba, Marabana, is already being run today in this capital from 6:00 in the morning, an event that in its 37th edition has the participation of more than 3,100 walkers.For the second consecutive year with start and finish in front of the Ramón Fonst multipurpose hall, on Avenida Independencia, the registered runners will try to surpass themselves in the distances called, 10 kilometers (km), 21 km and 097 meters (m) and the 42 km and 195 m.

Carlos Gattorno, director of the National Commission of Marabana/Maracuba Races and Walks (CNCCMM), expressed that this year this traditional race will be dedicated in a special way to the centenary of the birth of José Ramón Fernández (1923-2019), honorary life president of the Committee Cuban Olympic.

He added that of the total number of registered walkers, 527 are foreigners representing 47 countries.

Gattorno specified that at 6:00 a.m. The participants began their race in the 42 km and 195 m, in addition to the competitors in the 21 km and 097 m test, that is, the marathon and half marathon, respectively, and in the case of the 10 km the start will be at 7 in the morning, he stated.

It will be another different Sunday in the Cuban capital, in which several of its streets will be “taken over” by men and women who will challenge physical fatigue in search of improving their personal bests or simply reaching their goal, conscious that they gave everything until the end. .

Some will seek victory and be on the podium, others will complete the route and there will be their triumph, because the most important thing will be to show the will that you can reach the final destination, the one that demands great physical and mental preparation, with a common objective. , the well-being of the body and mind.

Like every year, this event will celebrate the Day of Physical Culture and Sports and will greet in 2023 the 504th Anniversary of the founding of the Villa de San Cristóbal de la Habana.

The 36th edition of Marabana was held on November 20, 2022, with the participation of more than 2,500 walkers, including more than 500 foreigners.
