Havana World Music: A party of soundsHAVANA, 27 Mar. By: Yanelys Hernández Cordero  The fifth edition of the Havana World Music (HWM) culminates and like all the great cultural events, it brought together more than a dozen foreign artists and “from the patio”.

The Almendares Metropolitan Park was once again the headquarters of the one that, according to the interpreter Gretell Barreiro, “is the most complete musical festival that Havana has had 5 years ago”. Precisely in charge of Barreiro was the inauguration on March 22; but she did not show up alone, in this party she was accompanied by Dj Jigüe and Toques del Rio.

Until the 24th, lovers of good music could enjoy different sonorities united under the slogan With music everything is arranged. Among the most promoted presentations was the return to Isla de los Orishas: head of the poster for this edition of the HWM, and those who closed the Festival with a selection of songs from their most recent Gourmet record, among which was the well-known Cuba, Bella Island The popular urban music group returned after almost ten years of absence on national stages; so this concert, in particular, caused great excitement among his followers.

Spanish singer Marinah topped the list of international guests; Known for her work in the Catalan band Ojos de Brujo, this time she brought a different proposal: her solo project. The duo of African origin Gato Preto joined the voices that inhabited the outdoor stages of this musical marathon.

They also did the Puerto Rican percussionist Henry Cole, La Banda Morisca (from Spain) and the group Swing Original Monks (Ecuadorean cast). On the other hand, the Australian band Lolo Lovaina was on Friday the 23rd. On that day, Síntesis was also presented: one of the groups that, with its fusion of rhythms, has remained in the national preference for more than forty years.Havana World Music: A party of sounds

Led by the pianist Roberto Carcassés, the Interactive band, joined the talents that shared their good energy in this Festival, which, during its first four editions, has managed to bring together an audience of more than 30 thousand people. Another one that could not miss the appointment was the interpreter Haydeé Milanés.

The First Base project of the HWM, as is customary, promoted the work of the novice artists. On this occasion he won the Cimafunk contest prize. However, this year the selected participants received advice from British professionals in the music industry; and they were also able to record a demo in studio. This is possible due to the support of both the EGREM and the British Council.

Sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Music and the National Center of Popular Music; and under the artistic direction of Eme Alfonso, Havana World Music crossed the borders of the Metropolitan Park. During the week of the Festival, collateral activities took place at the Meliá Habana Libre hotel and the Cuban Art Factory.

The spell of a fifth anniversary where diversity and contagious ways of telling stories, crowded headlines: it became imminent. Because this festival of sounds has already established itself as one of the most important and expected events in the musical context of the Island.
