Havana Fair, a window of opportunity for Cuba's foreign trade

HAVANA, Nov 2 (PL) Cuba is open to talks with foreign companies as part of its strategy to boost its economy, and the 37th Havana Trade Fair (Fihav, in Spanish) next week will contribute to pushing forward this policy. Since its first edition in 1983, Fihav became the main commercial showcase of the island to which firms come every year from all over the world.

The country has a wide business portfolio, in which its main partners are Venezuela, China, Russia, and Spain, but also Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Germany, and France use the opportunities to make deals.

Cuba is part of the Multilateral Trade System since 1947, first as a member of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT).

Since 1995, it belongs to the World Trade Organization (WTO), maintains commercial relations with more than 170 countries and offers its cooperation to 186.

Since the 90s of the last century, the export of services has a growing role in the Cuban economy, which is manifested in its increasingly important influence on the results of the foreign trade of this nation.

And in this sense, Fihav constitutes an emblematic link in Cuba’s work for the benefit of its economy and development.
