Germans report predilection for tourism in Cuba

HAVANA, March 6. Reports from specialized media today point out the predilection of German tourists to visit Cuba and in particular touring monuments, buying regional products and cycling around the island.
A note from the European publication Trade Travel Caribbean (TTC) added that these details were offered by the director of the Cuban Tourism Office in Berlin, Orlando Ramos, who expressed his satisfaction with such a preference.

He was the source that Cuba could be an ideal destination for Germans judging by the statistics.

At the end of 2023, Germans were in sixth place among foreign visitors to that Caribbean nation and from 58,715 in 2022, the figure increased to 69,475 at the end of the year.

The official said that this trend towards gradual and progressive recovery is also noticeable so far in 2024, a period in which Germany is in fifth position among those arriving in Cuba.

He announced that it is the challenge to achieve an increase in emissions of around 26 percent compared to 2023 in the current year.

In this sense, the increase in the number of seats on direct flights of the airline Condor, following the introduction of the Airbus A330neo, is of particular importance.

For this purpose, a Cuban delegation attends the ITB Berlin 2024 International Tourism Fair (March 5 to 7).

The group of delegates is chaired by the First Vice Minister of Tourism of Cuba, María del Carmen Orellana, also made up of representatives of national incoming resorts, specialized travel agencies and the hotel chains Cubanacán, Grupo Gaviota, Gran Caribe, Islazul and Campismo, as well as the international Meliá, Iberostar, Muthus, Blue Diamond, Barceló, ROC, Kempinski, Archipiélago, ATG and Valentín.

More than 180 travel destinations and the presence of tourism professionals, mostly top-level managers with purchasing power and decision-making power, meet in the German capital, now with the ITB.

The executive stressed that without a doubt, the main event to promote in this edition will be the International Tourism Fair of Cuba (FITCuba 2024), the most important travel meeting on the island, which will take place in Jardines del Rey (center -north) from May 2 to 5 and which will be dedicated to Latin America and the Caribbean.

At ITB Berlin, the Caribbean island’s tourism industry also promotes newly opened or remodeled facilities – such as the Grand Aston Varadero Hotel, the Innside Catedral y Sevilla Hotel in Havana, Vila Galé Cayo Paredón, Meliá Trinidad Península in Trinidad and Sol Turquesa Beach in Holguín.

The new destinations Cayo Paredón and Cayo Cruz are added to the north of Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey, and the consolidation of Varadero and Jardines del Rey as leading hubs of Cuban tourism.

Currently, German travelers arrive in Cuba mainly on board the direct flights of the airline Condor Flugdienst GmbH, from Frankfurt airport to Varadero, Havana and Holguín.

The rest use regular lines with the inconvenience of having to stop in some of the main European capital cities.

The delegate stated that ITB Berlin 2024 is also an exceptional opportunity to hold meetings with the main managers of German airlines, which will allow the strengthening of commercial relations and evaluating conditions for increasing the frequency of flights to the main Cuban tourist centers.
