Director of the "Los que Son Son" Cesar “Pupi” Pedroso passes away

HAVANA, July 17th The physical departure of the director of the Los que Son Son orchestra took place this Sunday after several months of fighting against a cardiovascular condition, which since last May caused damage to his general health.

 “A great musician has just passed away”: César “Pupi” Pedroso, lamented today Cuba’s Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, who highlighted the prolific career of the outstanding pianist and composer.

This Sunday, From the social network Twitter, the head of the sector evoked the legacy of the National Music Award (2013), whose “work will endure in the taste and memory of the people, who always distinguished him as an artist. My condolences to his family and friends,” said the Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso.

From social networks, artists and cultural institutions joined the condolences for Pedroso’s death, while highlighting his exceptional career as an arranger and composer.

A hard blow to Cuban Culture: César Pupi Pedroso, a great figure of our popular music, has just passed away. National Music Award, his work will endure in the taste and memory of the people, who always distinguished him as an artist. My condolences to his family and friends.

In that sense, the publication of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, which referred to the pain generated by the death of the member of the organization, founder of the group Los Van Van together with Juan Formell, stood out.

It also evoked dance hits signed by Pedroso such as Eso está bueno, Disco Azúcar, La fruta, Temba, tumba, timba and El negro está cocinando, among several songs.

Likewise, the National Council of Performing Arts, the Cuban Association of United Nations and the Cuban Institute of Music expressed regret because “another of the greats has left us”, while reiterating the prevalence of his legacy.

The secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Havana, Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, also said that the people of the capital are overwhelmed by the loss of a musician with “an exemplary career and deep commitment to the national culture, to which he dedicated his life.

Likewise, singer Eduardo Sandoval thanked Pedroso for the joys he gave and the opportunity to know his art, which demonstrates the feelings of the different generations that make up the sound stave of the island.

Pedroso, 75 years old (September 24, 1946), contributed to the birth of the songo rhythm, while he bequeathed extensive work, recognized with various awards and recognitions.
