Cuba’s beekeepers bring more revenue than sugar

HAVANA, Sept. 4th The US embargo on Cuba hinders productivity in every sector of the island’s economy, but beekeepers in Cuba have turned to traditional methods of producing honey and produce more revenue than sugar.

Deprived of access to modern technology after the Soviet Union collapsed, they turned to traditional, more environmentally friendly methods of honey production.

Chemicals and antibiotics are prohibited. And those decades of pain are now paying off, as they produce some of the world’s most sought-after honey.
