Cuba reports record number of daily cases of Covid-19

HAVANA, Jan.11th  Cuba reported three new deaths and a daily record of 388 additional cases of COVID-19,

the Ministry of Public Health reported on Sunday.

Among these new cases, only 35 have a source of contamination abroad, confirming the existence of a new outbreak of the disease, the ministry said. The total of active cases on the island has reached 2,534, with seven patients in critical condition and 17 in intensive care.

Authorities associate the current rebound in the disease in the country with the entry of travellers from abroad during the holiday season. The situation forced the government to adopt new restrictive measures in several provinces.

From Sunday, travellers arriving from abroad will have to submit a health declaration and a PCR test carried out no later than 72 hours before the flight. Cuba has so far recorded a total of 14,576 cases of COVID-19, with 151 deaths.
