Cuba ratifies Desire to Form Part of the Caribbean Confederation of Professional Baseball

Havana, Jan 19th Higinio Vélez, president of the Cuban Baseball Federation, affirmed the aspiration of his country to officially be part of the Caribbean Confederation ofProfessional Baseball (CBPC by its Spanish acronym).

We will take advantage of the spaces of dialogue that will be generated during the Caribbean Series of Culiacan, in February, to renew that purpose, presented more than a year ago, Velez told JIT sports publication.

We have been in contact with CBPC, even formally expressing the willingness to host the 2020 edition, Velez said.

Vélez explained that in a telephone conversation held on Tuesday with Juan Francisco Puello, CBPC president, the latter endorsed the right of Cuba and the decision to continue defending it, knowing that it requires the consent of the MLB.

We have expressed that we consider inadmissible any conditioning to the professional character or not of our league, recognized by its quality, organization and international prestige, but generally, we believe that CBPC has the desire to receive us as a full member, the Cuban official stated.

Cuba has attended as guest the last three versions of the Caribbean Baseball Series and will do it this year in such condition, represented by the winner of the final playoff of its national tournament that starts today between Ciego de Avila and Granma. (acn)
