Cuba and Germany Praise State of Relations

HAVANA, Feb 23.- Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Rogelio Sierra, and Germany”s Maria Bohmer, revealed in Havana the good state of the political and commercial relations between the two countries, it was reported here today.

Sierra and Bohmer discussed yesterday at the headquarters of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs some issues of common interest and ratified the interest of strengthening and extending bilateral ties.

Bohmer came accompanied by regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean, ambassador Dieter Lamle, while Sierra attended along with other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit of the German diplomat reaffirms that nation’s interest to expand its presence in the island now that there are more opportunities for foreign investment in sectors of the local economy.

Executives from 12 companies of the German federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg held some meetings in January with officials of the Cuban government, to whom they expressed interest in opening joint ventures in areas such as construction, transportation, health services and industry. (PL)
