Painter Nelson Domínguez opens first rural gallery in Cuba

HAVANA, Feb 16 (ACN) Renowned plastic artist Nelson Domínguez will open on February 15 in El Jobero, Cienfuegos, the first rural gallery in Cuba, José Oriol González, director of Teatro de los Elementos, informed the press today.

Estudio Molino Rojo Gallery, name that will adopt the cultural institution, is part of Rural Galleries, one of the most ambitious projects prosecuted by the National Prize of Plastic Arts, which consists of founding creation spaces in rural areas with a perspective of economic development.

González, one of the fundamental managers of this idea and who has developed together with Teatro de los Elementos various cultural actions in that community for more than 25 years, spoke about the great community projection of the initiative, due to the opportunities it will offer to the population of the territory.

On the subject the artist commented that Estudio Galería Molino Rojo will open a space where, in small format, the plastics of the region will be able to exhibit their works, and will carry out teaching workshops for children, among other functions.

The inaugural words will be borne by Norma Rodríguez Deribet, President of the National Council of Plastic Arts, and during the ceremony cultural actions will be carried out as a virtual reproduction of images of works by Domínguez.

You can also enjoy a sample of plasticine sculptures made by children, posters drawn by local residents and the premiere of a living sculpture of the National Prize of Plastic Arts, by artists of the Teatro de los Elementos company.

Galerías Rurales foresees the inauguration of a second space in the province of Pinar del Río and a third in Santiago de Cuba.

Nelson Domínguez is currently launching different initiatives such as Pocket Flaco, a project to encourage popular collecting, and Hospital-Gallery, to encourage the creation of murals made of ceramics to donate to provincial hospitals.
