Cuba experienced its coldest morning of 2024

HAVANA, February 22. The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) reported that Cuba experienced the coldest morning of the year this Wednesday,due to temperatures below 7 °C and 10 °C in several weather stations.

The records marked almost the lowest value of 2024, coinciding with the presence of a cold front that has affected the island since Sunday.

The airports of Cienfuegos and Santa Clara reported minimums of around 9 °C, and the territories of Indio Hatuey (6.3 °C) and Colón (6.4 °C) in Matanzas; as well as Bainoa (6.9 °C) in Mayabeque, had the lowest values this morning.

This meteorological event represents a milestone for the current year since it is the only occasion in which temperatures below 7 °C have been recorded in several locations since the minimum of 5.9 °C reported in the early morning of January 1 in Bainoa.

INSMET warns in its weather report today about the persistence of cold conditions, especially in the western region, with temperatures that will range between 12 and 15 °C at night.

Localities in the center of the country are expected to experience similar temperatures, while in the eastern region, nighttime minimums will be between 16 and 19 °C.

The report indicates that for the afternoon and evening today, a cold day is anticipated in the west of the country with little rain. The maximum temperatures during the day will be between 22 and 25 °C in the west and center, reaching 28 °C in the eastern region, and being higher in some locations in the south.
