French Scientists Urge for the Creation of Cuban-French Joint Ventures

HAVANA, Apr 11th (acn)  The Permanent Secretary of the French Academy of Sciences Catherine Brechignac said on Monday in Havana that there are possibilities of creatingCuban-French joint ventures in the scientific sector.

The also ambassador for France’s Science, Technology and Innovation told ACN that it would be positive if they are able to jointly work in that sense.

She added that initially the project would include biotechnology and informatics because they are very useful, serves all sectors and in ocean sciences, because France has a problem with arquiculture, and are attempting to foment and reproduce fish, mollusks and algae in fresh and salt water.

The French official commented this can be one of the actions to strengthen the scientific-technological cooperation maintained for the last 50 years, resumed in 2016 including the exchanges in qualified personnel.

Brechignac spoke on Monday at the First French-Cuban Forum on Sciences, Technology and Innovation, which will run until Wednesday at the Cuban Academy of Sciences Assembly Hall (ACC) with the presence of professionals from both countries.

Dr. Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, Vice President of the ACC and scientific advisor of the Cuban Council of State also spoke about the cooperation. He spoke about research and innovation, priorities and its evolution mainly around the increase in the level of knowledge and assessment in the productive activities of goods and services.

Castro Diaz-Balart added that this is essential for the construction of competitive windows that Cuba requires.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, up until 2016 Cuba had 943 PhD in Sciences, 400 categorized researchers and 16 thousand 513 workers in the science, technology and innovation per one million inhabitants.
