HAVANA, August 22th Russian automobile production company AvtoVAZ has signed an agreement with the Cuban government to supply the island with its new model of Ladas, Vesta, which will be used for taxis, reports Sputnik.
According to the publication, it has not yet been revealed whether the cars will also go on sale for natural persons. There is also no information on the specifications of the Ladas that will be supplied to the Island.
Sputnik said that the Cuban side sent its requirements for the Russian cars and signed another contract for the supply of parts of the Vesta Ladas.
Last March, the president of the automotive group AvtoVaz, Nicolas Maure, visited Cuba, who spoke of the possibility of establishing an assembly plant in the island and of taking advantage of the “very good political relations” between both governments.
“We appreciate very good conditions for the company to return to the local market” under the Lada brand, Maure told the official Prensa Latina news agency.
