HAVANA, 16 sep. American singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, considered one of the greatest artists of his generation, will offer for the first time a public concert in Cuba at Havana’s Gran Teatro Alicia Alonso on Sunday, 24 September at 5:00 pm
In the show, the artist will be accompanied by the GTHAA Symphony Orchestra, directed by Maestro Giovanni Duarte, and will have as a special guest the singer-songwriter Carlos Varela.
Praised by critics and a legion of loyal followers across the globe, Rufus has built a solid career as one of the most outstanding vocalists of his generation.
Born in New York and raised in Montreal, the musician has released several albums including the tribute he dedicated to Judy Garland, as well as the albums The Stars, Rufus Wainwright and Poses. His collaborations include artists such as Elton John, David Byrne and Joni Mitchell.
His performances of Hallelujah in the soundtrack of the animated film Shrek and Across the Universe in the musical of the same title dedicated to the songs of The Beatles are contemporary classics of the soundtracks of American cinema. He has composed music for other artistic manifestations, but it has been in the opera where he has received greater acclaim.
