HAVANA, Sep 28th With the screening of the documentary ”Cuba”, a country of lawyers, the 2017 Advocacy International Congress initiated yesterday, which brings together about 900 lawyers to discuss issues about dispute resolution and management.
At the opening, the president of the National Organization of Collective Law Firms (ONBC), Ariel Mantecón, said that the main objective of this meeting is to exchange experiences for the improvement of the legal life of the country.
The interdisciplinary essence of this conclave contributes to this goal, and it became a communicational experience of recognized international importance for law professionals, he said.
In this regard, the presence of about 90 delegates from 18 nations was highlighted, which he considered a deep gesture of friendship with jurists and the Cuban people in general.
The president of the Organizing Committee of the meeting also said that 500 corporate lawyers from Cuban institutions incorporated yesterday on pre-congress courses, along with ONBC members from all over the country, took part in this event.
In reference to the context in which this event enhances, Mantecón highlighted Cuba’s recovery efforts following the devastating Hurricane Irma, and launched a message of encouragement and solidarity for other Caribbean nations and Mexico, also affected by natural disasters.
The inauguration ceremony was presided by the secretary of the Cuban Council of State, Homero Acosta; the president of the Supreme People’s Court, Rubén Remigio Ferro; the Attorney General of the Republic, Darío Delgado; and Deputy Minister of Justice Urban Pedraza, among other senior officials.
The sixth edition of the 2017 Advocacy International Congress will be held in the capital of the Convention Center from today until 29 September. (Prensa Latina)
