HAVANA, 15 apr. (PL) The Grand Hotel Kempinski in Cuba won the Versailles Continental Architecture Prize, in a ceremony held in this capital, where shops, restaurants and shops were also distinguished.
In the gala at the Hidalgo Castle of Santa Lucía hill in Santiago, the hotel facility took the maximum laurels ‘for the extraordinary restoration and renovation’ in the old building of the Manzana de Gómez in Old Havana.
The general manager of Havanatour in Chile, Israel Otaño, received the Grand Prix Versailles of the region in the hotel segment, in which Casa República de Lima, Peru, won the Special Interior Award, and Tierra Chiloé Hotel de Chile, the Award Special Exterior.
‘It is an honor to receive this distinction on behalf of the Kempinski company and the Gaviota tourism chain; reason for pride and at the same time serves as a reference for tourism in our island, “said Otaño.
At the same time, the head of Havanatour stressed that it is also a recognition of the development of the industry without chimneys in Cuba.
The award places the Big Apple Kempinski among the finalists of the World Prix Versailles, whose award ceremony will take place at the Unesco headquarters in Paris on May 15.
“This is the first time that the Prix Versailles has arrived in a Latin American country since its establishment in 2015, so it is an honor for our country,” Myriam Gómez, executive director of Imagen de Chile, told Prensa Latina.
In the five star plus range, the hotel has 246 rooms, including 50 suites, bars, restaurants, spa, gym, a heated rooftop pool and an exclusive cigar lounge.
The evening in Santiago also recognized shopping centers, restaurants and stores in the Americas, with outstanding grades for Mexico, Brazil, the United States, Chile and Argentina.
Algiers and Beijing, the respective capitals of Algeria and China, will be stages this month of other galas of the Prix Versailles to award the most outstanding of the regions of Africa and the Middle East, and of Asia and Oceania, respectively.
