HAVANA, Nov 13 (ACN) With the interest of preserving and recognizing a tradition with more than a century and a half of existence, on December 20 and 21, the Fourth National Meeting of Tobacco Readers will be held at the Hispanic American Center of the Culture, of this capital.
According to the Tabaco Business Group of Cuba (Tabacuba), the event also aims to consolidate the work of these professionals, who each day contribute to the training and improvement of tobacco workers.
To the meeting, convened by Tabacuba, the National Union of Agricultural, Forestry and Tobacco Workers, and the Tobacco Museum of the Office of the Historian of Havana, there will be more than 130 representatives of the sector.
This trade was born and projected as a means to raise the culture of cigar makers, therefore, in the two days of work specialists will discuss the role played by the readings of cigar makers in the revolutionary formation of the cigar rollers, and its importance in the current context.
In December 1865, El Fígaro factory was inaugurated, the first cigar reading, a transcendental event in Cuban history, which later favored the tobacco pickings and pickles of the country.
This important oral practice, born in the colonial period, is a Cultural Heritage of the Nation since 2012.
José Martí, National Hero of Cuba, assured that: “… The reading table of each cigar factory was an advanced platform for freedom …”.
