HAVANA, Dec 1 Cuba and Iran made a “positive” assessment of the bilateral political dialogue during a meeting between authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the island and a delegation of the Islamic Assembly (Parliament) of the Persian country that visits Havana, official media reported today.
The deputy minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra, received on Tuesday the president of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the island, Mohammad Reza Mansouri, who heads a large delegation of the Islamic Assembly of Iran, according to the website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
Both sides exchanged about the “excellent” state of bilateral relations and made a “positive” assessment of the progress of the high-level political dialogue between Iran and Cuba, as well as the importance of continuing to reactivate economic, trade and cooperation ties. , indicates the note.
The meeting also addressed issues of common interest such as the recovery efforts undertaken by the Iranian authorities after the earthquake that just struck the province of Kermanshah with a balance of almost 500 people killed and thousands wounded, as well as in Cuba after the passage of the Hurricane Irma, which left ten dead and significant economic damage.
Cuba and Iran maintain a close bilateral relationship, which led last February to the signing of twelve agreements for the exemption of diplomatic visas and services, and in other areas such as agriculture, higher education and the pharmaceutical industry.
In September 2016 the Iranian President, Hasan Rohaní, visited Cuba and met Raúl Castro, with whom he signed a cooperation agreement in the sectors of health, education, research, medicines and medical technology.
