Dutch Girl missing in Cuba

Dutch Girls missing in CubaHAVANA, July 24th !Missing! We are looking for our daughter Anouk van Luijk, 19 years old. She travelled on her own to Cuba on July 7th. The last time we had contact with her was on July 21 around 14.00 hrs.

We think she was in the area of Havana or in Campo Florido at that moment. She told us she lost her bank card and was without money since Wednesday July 18. She also felt sick and suffered diarrhea. Without money, food and a place to sleep, we advised her to go to the Dutch Embassy but she never arrived. Her flight back was July 21, but also here she did not arrive.

Anouk contacted us daily multiple times so it worries us a lot there is complete radio silence and she did to fly back to the Netherlands. We are affraid something serious happened to her.

We are astonished and disappointed in the cooperation of the different authorities and parties. We contacted the police, Dutch embassy and Foreign Affairs, but they seem to look only to each other as the responsible party to take action.

We have reported her missing, but the police only wants to take action if there is a crime or life threatening situation. Without any evidence of a crime this they do nothing! Sofar Interpol is also not taking any actions.

The answer of the Dutch Embassy employee: there are so many tourists and it is not the role of the Embassy to call hospitals and hotels. TUI, the travel agency does not want to give information because of privacy legislation! The only person being very cooperative is the representative from Foreign Affairs.

We hope by distributing this message via social media we can get support from people that are now travelling in Cuba and may hear of see something. Maybe have contacts we can approach. If so, please contact us. Hopefully Anouk wil give a sign of life and this all appears to be a nightmare. But until then we continue the search for our daughter and hope someone can help us.
