HAVANA, May 6 (PL) Theater, dancing, life music, movie and literature are some of the artistic events scheduled Sunday for the closing day of the May Cultural Festival of Holguin, city in eastern Cuba, popular fete that will last until Monday.
The last concert began right after midnight at the Major General Calixto Garcia Revolution Square where several bands, among them the Afro-Cuba beat band Sintesis, M Alfonso and his group and renowned troubadour Polito Ibañez and his band are lighting up the city’s main square packed with locals and representatives from 26 countries.
Actors, writers, dancers, movie makers, painters, musicians, theater and dance troupes gathered in Holguin, 734 kilometers east of Havana, to participate in this multicultural festivity that began on May 2 this year. The popular fete that stemmed from the old tradition of the May pilgrimages has been growing in importance as years go by.
The closing parade tonight will start at the Loma de la Cruz and will cross the city up to the provincial museum ‘La Periguera’, while the popular salsa band of Alexander Abreu and his D’Primera band will play at the city’s baseball park.
During the festival the organizers set up 15 stages to offer simultaneous dance, theater and music shows, while workshops, talks and presentations on diverse expressions of arts were organized.
