Havana, July 7th (PL) Experts from the Institute of Tropical Geography (IGT) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma), lead a project to create the environmental information system of Cuba 2017-2021, reported today Granma newspaper.
The initiative, known as InfoGeo, aims to collect and integrate all the information on this issue dispersed in the form of maps, plans, monographs, databases and technical reports in various agencies of the Central State Administration, noted the statement.
In this regard, the IGT’s deputy technological director, Yoel Cuzán, told the press that its future materialization will be an essential step in ensuring the distribution and access at the local and national levels of such a large amount of knowledge.
Thus, added the director, will achieve better planning of territorial development and decision-making for the sustainable management of the Cuban environment and its natural resources.
InfoGEO was presented at the VIII Congress of Environmental Management, which takes place in the context of the celebration of the XI International Convention on Environment and Development scheduled until tomorrow in Palacio de Convenciones in this capital.
The project will also be attended by professionals and technicians from the institutions belonging to the Environment Agency of the Citma, and the financing of the of the Fund for Global Environment.
