16th International Drum Festival begins in Cuba with several US artists

HAVANA, Mar 8th – Cuban and foreign artists meet today, and until March 12, in various stages of this city to give life to the program of the 16th Guillermo Barreto in MemoriamDrum Party.

American drummers Mark Giulliana, Will Calhoum and Craig Haynes will participate in the meeting, along with professionals from Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, and Canadian Aldo Mazza, a regular of the event.

The event offers concerts, master classes and contests of percussion, rumba (from 15 years) and casino dancing; the latter open to all ages for the first time.

Mella Theater will be the main venue of the event and it will host the awards ceremony, on which occasion it will be paid tribute to greats of the rumba like Giovanni del Pino, Juan de Dios Ramos, and Gregorio Hernandez “El Goyo”.

In addition to the main orchestras of popular dance music, the event will include dance companies, jazz and folk groups, and prestigious Cuban and foreign maestros will give master classes of percussion and dance.

The Drum Festival is the main event in the country aimed at promoting percussion and its various manifestations as a fundamental element of Cuban music. (ACN)
